More than 10 years ago I was asked to write an article called “So You Want to Be A Rockstar”. It was published in a local music magazine and I subsequently published it in my (then) website on geocities, which I named “The LL Club”, LL stood for “Ladies who Lepak” in reference to the gossip newsletter that I privately published and circulated in my faculty to break up the monotony of the life of an accounting student. The LL Club newsletter was a hit but the computer that kept it has long since died so I don’t have anything to show for from those LL days.
Anyway, I was browsing articles on the Japanese singles music market and I feel compelled to rewrite “So You Want To Be A Rockstar”. Why? Because I think a lot of local musicians are unaware of their rights (very important) or think it is too “academic” to bother about it, and a lot still gets involved in the music industry thinking that fame and money is an entitlement. So, I’d like to debunk the myth and shed some light into the matter. This section will grow as I add more articles into it.
