Sleep & Water

My life has been a bit strange these past couple of weeks, good strange not bad strange, busier than I thought it would be and a drain on resources most particularly sleep. So yesterday instead of getting out I decided to vegetate in the house except for a brief sojourn in the evening and went to sleep as early as I could manage. By 6.15am this morning my head was pounding like a mallet tenderizing meat (thanks Cooking Mama!).

Apparently getting a headache when you oversleep is very common. From WebMD: For some people prone to headaches, sleeping longer than usual on a weekend or vacation can cause head pain. Researchers believe this is due to the effect oversleeping has on certain neurotransmitters in the brain, including serotonin. People who sleep too much during the day and disrupt their nighttime sleep may also find themselves suffering from headaches in the morning.

Unfortunately for me, my regular sleeping duration is between 5-6 hours daily. I have been asked before if I am a light sleeper and the answer is I don’t know, I don’t think so. I mean, I can fall asleep instantaneously anywhere in any kind of condition whatsoever (under the staircase, in the LRT, at the back of the lecture hall, in the middle of reading a book or playing a game etc). But, I cannot sleep more than 5-6 hours at a stretch without waking up with a f*cking headache like I do right now. So, I am exhausted physically, but I am afraid to sleep because I don’t want to wake up grumpy. I am grumpy now.

I also need water. Water water water water water. The problem is, when I go out I tend to drink a lot less water than had I been sitting put in a place. I don’t know why. So the more I go out, the more dehydrated I become. It’s a vicious circle. No sleep, no water. People always complain that my handbag is so heavy. That’s because I keep a bottle of mineral water in my handbag at all times. But when you have too much of a good time, you tend to forget to rehydrate.

So right now I am PAYING for it!

*sigh*
